Llegamos! (We have arrived!)

Plaza Mayor

After a harrowing experience trapped in a flying tin can, we have arrived safely, if very late, in Madrid. Our flight was delayed on the tarmac for more than an hour in Los Angeles, then when we finally got to Newark we circled for an hour but were unable to land due to bad weather. The pilot said that we were low on fuel and diverted the plane to Philladelphia for an emergency landing. We were not allowed to deplane, so we remained on the tarmac, parked behind some sort of shed, very sketchy. A truck came to refuel our plane, but there were more than 40 planes waiting to take off so we waited, and waited and waited. Our plane finally took off at 10:00pm, the time our connecting flight to Madrid was supposed to leave! Thanks to all the bad weather that flight was delayed as well and after running through the Newark terminal and hailing a maverick golf cart, we made it in time! Gisela and her boyfriend Fernando met us at the airport in Madrid and have been showing us an awesome time.

Carlos' dad brought him to this shop to buy a classical guitar.

Gisela and Fernando are lovebirds.

We love museums, but perhaps none more than the one we visited last night. El Museo del Jamon (The Museum of Ham)! There were literally hundreds of legs of cured ham hanging from the walls and ceiling along the expansive bar. We had bracelet-sized calamari, Jamon Serrano with Manchego cheese, and some rockin' chorizo. The beers were a whopping €1.40 each. At this dangerous price, we'll be lucky to complete the Camino! More beer (and food!) updates to come. Thanks all for the well-wishes.

So inviting!

By the way, we have a Spanish phone number that you can reach us with: 011 34 637 044 297. We hope you have a good international calling plan!

Sorry about the mishap in Philly. My favorite quote about that place is from W.C. Fields. Apparently, his headstone at the cemetery reads "I'd rather be here than Philadelphia."

If beers in Spain cost more than 2 bucks, you can always go to the bar and finish other people's drinks when they go to the bathroom.

Carlos must be in Jamon Heaven! Glad to know you are enjoying so far. Dad and I think we may buy stock in Dr. Scholl's ... :-)
All is well here. Susie flew to Denver today to house hunt! They move on July 7th. Sigh.
Dad's feeling much better and sends his love too.
Hugs to Gisela and Fernando also - Mom

I don't think tyler's heart can handle your food updates. Do not mention "pulpo"!

I'm happy to hear you made it Madrid.

Buena Suerte!!

The only thing better than a Museum of Ham would be a Museum of Cheese! Let me know if you find one. I might fly over. Here's to Happy feet and no nasty blood blisters! Love you guys!-v

Forget about it!!!

20 euros = 14.285 cañas/beers (that's a lot of beer)

Also everybody, Carlos and Kirsten are 9 hours ahead so if you are out at night, have a drink in their honor... they'll probably be walking into their next day. One drink for their spirits, one for their feet!

Go!!!

You two in that plane for so long gave me hives!

Museo de Jamon, wow!
All I'd need are some corn tortillas and salsa for the carnitas, oh and FANTA!

Stay safe and wash your feets.

un abraso for the two of you.
